Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail

I’m sure you’ve heard this saying a million times. “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” Well, it’s true. If you do not prepare, you are never going to succeed.

Do you work a full day? Perhaps 9 to 5? Or maybe even 12 hour long work days? And then we blame our long days as an excuse to skip our workouts, not pack our meals, and grab unhealthy food on the go. Which then leaves us overweight and unhappy with our bodies.

But we can’t quit our day jobs…so we need to figure this out. That’s called time management and proper preparation. Because if you dedicate time to planning how you’re going to make sure you get to the gym either before or after work and how you’re going to cook and pack your meals for the day…you can achieve all your fitness goals and more.

If you fail to set yourself up for success each day, you will never get to where you want to be. So here are a few suggestions I have for the hard working woman looking to dedicate herself more to the fitness life:

Take a look at your day. First of all, is there truly no time you can dedicate to the gym each day? Even 30 minutes? Most likely there are ways you can find that extra time for yourself. Cut out TV time or get up an hour earlier. It can be done. Be honest with yourself. Is it lack of time or is it lack of commitment?

Decide right now what time you can commit to working out every day. Are you a morning person? Or do you function better at night? If you have never been able to get up early and truly just hate it, then accept that and commit to nighttime workouts.

Either pull your workout clothes out for your morning workout before work so it’s the first thing you see when you wake up…or pack your gym clothes in your work bag so you can go right to the gym after work.

As far as nutrition goes, you must prepare your meals! If you do not bring food with you, of course, you are going to eat out. You are literally setting yourself up for failure that way. Don’t do that! Take control of yourself and your actions.

Do what you have to do to get shit done. I promise it is possible. Practice preparation.
