What has fitness done for you?
To say that fitness changed my life would be an understatement. For those of you who aren’t familiar with my story, I went through a huge body change that completely destroyed my self-confidence and body image. I went from 5 ft 3 to 6 ft in about 2 years. I started growing later in high school and even grew more through college. I went from being the smallest in my friend group to by far the largest and that was tough for me. I went from being called “peanut” to “big” or “huge.” To be honest, I hated this part of me. I hated how I looked. And it was something completely out of my control.
I wanted to feel like I had control over my body again. So, it was my sophomore year of college that I decided to start training. And I mean really training. Not just show up to the gym and do the elliptical and pick up some light dumbbells like I was doing for years before. I wanted to actually change my body…because this height wasn’t going anywhere.
I committed myself to this process from the beginning because I so desperately wanted to feel better about myself. I began learning, studying, and dedicating a lot of my free time to fitness.
As time went on, I began falling in love with the entire journey and process. Most importantly, I started to find some self confidence in myself.
Fitness taught me many things that have only helped me in other areas of my life.
I learned discipline. I chose early morning gym sessions before class on days when I really didn’t feel like getting up. I learned dedication. I made small goals for myself and worked towards achieving them daily. I learned independence. I learned to depend on nobody but myself to do what I needed to do every day to get what I wanted.
But the biggest thing I have gotten from fitness is finding my purpose in life. I am 100% certain that this is my life calling. To empower others to find confidence in themselves through fitness and health.
Fitness gives me a reason to wake up every day. It gives me an opportunity to have a huge impact on other people’s lives. It’s amazing.
And I know that if fitness has done all of this for me…then it can do it for you too.
